COWARTS:   12:42 PM.  Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched Cowarts Fire to the 4800 block of Highway 84 East to a fire Alarm.

Cowarts Volunteer Fire Department responded. Cowarts Fire Chief Roger Nall asked the 911 Sheriff Communications Center if they had made contact with a key holder. No contact had been successful.

In the meantime the home owner arrived. When the door was open the house was full of smoke. Chief Nall immediately called a structure fire, smoke inside the residence. this meant to the Sheriff 911 Center to dispatch additional resources.

Before the dispatch of additional resources Chief Nall had made entry and determined it was good in or on the stove that caused the house full of smoke. So no actual structure fire. The calling for additional resources was immediately cancelled.

NOTE:  This is a event where the smoke detector performed as designed. It detected smoke, sounded the alarm, the alarm either called Sheriff 911 or the alarm call center. Fire units were dispatched, responded, but then the only way to make entry was forcible entry because the 911 Center was unable to contact a key holder.

If you have a burglar or fire alarm please make sure the 911 Center of jurisdiction has contact numbers that you will answer if you see a certain number pop up. That means when your phone is on vibrate and in church or dining out. Also

provide alternare key holder number or if a key hidden. That information is in a secure database in the 911 Center. That keeps you from having to replace a door if emergency units have to make forcible entry.
