DOTHAN:     At 8:03 AM Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Police - Dothan Fire and EMS to 1071 Montgomery Highway to the location where a firearm assault victim appeared seeking help.

THIS WAS NOT THE LOCATION OF THE FIREARM ASSAULT, being Dollar General. The firearm assault victim came into the Dothan General requesting they call 911 for help that he had been shot.

Dollar General staff did an awesome job when they were presented with such situation.

Multiple Dothan Police Officers responded. Dothan Police Patrol Commander Lieutenant Rachael David directed patrol shift to spread out the area and locate the crime scene.

Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish and Dothan Police Major Will Benny required "all boots on the ground" to begin working the scene, victim, witnesses and locating the suspect(s) of the shooting.

The scene was quickly located on North Bell Street behind the Dollar General. Not immediately behind but down the street. Evidence was located on the scene and in the street.

Patrol Commander Lt. David instructed the Crime Scene Specialist, Tyler King, to respond to the North Bell crime scene. Dothan Police Violent Crime Criminal Investigators Sgt. Ronald Hall, Terry Nelson and Scott Spivey hit the streets early this Saturday morning. Some responding to the hospital and some to the crime scene.

With all of the combined efforts and quick response ordered by Chief Parrish and Major Benny, all of Dothan Police Officers identified information on the suspect and a possible suspect location.

While responding to the possible suspect location, and having obtained a suspect vehicle description, Lt. David spotted a brown Honda Accord that matched the description on Montgomery Highway at Napier Field Road. Lt. David turned around on the vehicle and made a "HIGH RISK" traffic stop on Montgomery Highway at The Pavillion.

HIGH RISK TRAFFIC STOPS are those of which all precautions are taken, officers with weapons drawn, ordering the people in the vehicle to be slow and do not make any sudden movements and actions.

The suspect vehicle description was a brown Honda occupied by a black female. This vehicle had three females but matched the make, model, year and color of the suspect vehicle. Turned out not to be the vehicle.

Dothan Officers continued their quest to locate the suspect(s). The information Dothan Police had obtained was the suspect was at a address in Midland City.

Dothan Police responded to Midland City. With the assistance of Midland City Police a suspect was taken into custody. The suspect was transported by Dothan Police Patrol to Criminal Investigation Division for questioning.

Depends on the questioning combined with the intelligence information Dothan Police has if the suspect will be charged. To be determined.

The victim was shot in the chest above the heart. At this time unless condition changes the victim is expected to be admitted to the hospital and survive his injuries. If he survives on Sunday he needs to be at the alter in church giving praise and glory to the Heavenly Father that his life was saved. Given the location and possible caliber, GOD'S HAND is the only reason he is alive.

Well, GOD'S HANDS being placed on Dollar General, Dothan Fire, Pilcher Ambulance and Southeast Health Medical Staff.

GOOD JOB TO ALL. Thanks to the Command Staff of Dothan Police Department - Chief Steve Parrish, Major Will Benny, Captain Todd David, Captain Will Glover, Captain Bubba Ott and all in the department. Rapid response, working in unison with precision produces positive results, thus making Dothan residents and guests thereof safe and secure.

UPDATED @ 12:44 PM

The female questioned by Dothan Police Criminal Investigations is not the suspect in the early morning shooting.

The investigators continue their quest.
