DOTHAN: 1:25 PM Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Police - Dothan Fire and EMS to a motor vehicle accident with injuries, 4000 block of West Main Street.
On the arrival of Dothan Fire Engine 3 ( Westgate ) they reported a two vehicle accident with minor damage to the vehicles. Engine 3 was investigating the extent of injuries.
If you were at South Oates and Ross Clark Circle as I was you observed a Dothan Police cruiser running lights and sirens northbound on South Oates and turning north on the circle. Then a Dothan Police Ford Explorer coming from Hodgesville Road area to South Oates and Ross Clark Circle traveling lights and siren going north on Ross Clark Circle. Both of those Dothan Police units were responding to the motor vehicle accident in the 4000 block of Ross Clark Circle.
Dothan Fire Engine 3 downgraded the responding EMS to non emergency after the injuries were investigated.
WHY WAS DOTHAN POLICE RUNNING LIGHTS AND SIREN?
The 911 Center has certain criteria they are required to ask when injuries are reported. Based on the information "received" in the 911 Center is what the 911 Center is required to seek response from the emergency units.
Until a emergency unit is on the scene and gives what Dothan Fire in the National Incident Command describes as a "BIR - brief incident report" the responding units are to respond as per the information the 911 Center received and dispatched.
At 1:32 PM Dothan Fire Engine has returned to service, no injuries transported.
Dothan Police are investigating the accident.
