DOTHAN, Alabama, May 26, 2023: Sunset Memorial Park presents the 17th Annual Wiregrass Memorial Day Ceremony, a day of remembrance of the lives and sacrifices of our veterans and celebration of the freedoms they fought to preserve on Memorial Day, May 29. Starting at 10 AM, bring your family and friends to Sunset Memorial Park to enjoy the personal stories of our keynote speaker, US Army combat veteran Thom Tran, who received a Purple Heart for his service in Iraq. Observe a cannon-firing detail with taps, in addition to a flower-laying ceremony, in honor of our military personnel whose service made this day possible. A free picnic lunch will also be provided to attendees. We invite you to join us as we pay tribute to our fallen heroes and remember the sacrifices they made for our freedoms.
A first-generation American immigrant, turned American soldier, combat veteran, and now a professional touring stand-up comedian, Thom Tran turned a literal lifetime of war and tragedy into a successful comedy career. On April 3, 2003, his 4th day in Iraq, during a gunfight Thom was struck in the back of the head by a sniper’s bullet. Since starting his comedy career, Thom created the GIs of Comedy tour, a group of combat veterans turned stand-up comedians.
