For 35 years, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) has dedicated its mission to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. As a survivor of suicide loss, someone who struggles, and dedicated Walk Chair for the Wiregrass Out of the Darkness Walk, I am proud to support an organization that continues to make mental health and preventing suicide a priority.

AFSP has grown from a research-based organization to the largest private suicide prevention organization in the United States that not only invests in research, but also creates and implements prevention education, advocates for public policy and supports survivors of suicide loss. With Chapters and advocates in all 50 states, AFSP is leading the fight against suicide.

As we commemorate this milestone, I ask you to join us in the fight to stop suicide. With your help, the AFSP Alabama Chapter will be able to maximize our impact in our community by reaching and serving more people through our lifesaving programs and resources. As a sponsor, you will bring suicide Out of the Darkness, create a culture that is smart about mental health, and inspire others to keep going.

Why support the Wiregrass Out of the Darkness Community Walk?
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the Unites States and the 12th leading cause of death in Alabama. In 2019, national suicide rates declined in the U.S. for the first time in two decades and rates continued to decline in
2020. With your support, we’ll be one step closer to achieving our bold goal to reduce the national suicide rate 20% by 2025.

AFSP’s Community Impact:
By working together to improve the health and well-being of Alabamians, we are connecting people to resources and programs and removing barriers that stand in the way of people finding hope and healing. Last year, the Alabama Chapter hosted nearly 280 attendees through 19 virtual and in-person prevention education sessions, reached 460 individuals through presentations about AFSP and tabling events, hosted a virtual Alabama State Capitol Day, and held four in-person International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day events. Additionally, we distributed over 3,300 educational and resource materials to our local communities. Sponsor and show our community you’re a voice for suicide prevention.

The deadline to sponsor the Out of the Darkness Walk is August 31, 2022. To join us as a sponsor, please complete the enclosed sponsorship agreement. For information about sponsor levels and benefits, please contact me or Area Director, Jennifer Hall at [email protected]
