DOTHAN: 2:10 PM The entire IT ( Information Technology ) System for the City of Dothan is down.
A number of telephones, other than 911, within the City of Dothan government is down. Did attempt to call the Dothan Mayor's Office and Dothan Police Chief Office and they worked. A lot of other phones do not work.
The Dothan Police Officer's remote records management system is not operational. A lot of features for the Computer Aided Dispatch are not operable which prevents the 911 staff from researching information and phone numbers.
The City of Dothan - Houston County Communications District ( 911 Authority ) contracts with Dothan Information Technology to manage the IT. The district, which is comprised of all of Houston County, is part of the Communications District.
The City of Dothan is paid $ 150,000.00 for the management of the Communications District ( 911 ) IT.
Former Dothan City Manager Mike West hired Marianna resident Jack Mason as the IT Director. This was after 4 years had no permenant IT Director. The Interiem Director was long time Dothan employee Rob Meredith. The one everyone calls to fix things.
When Mason came on board some long time Dothan IT Staff left.
What is interesting about Mason's hire...Dothan's IT Director was Tim Stewart. Dothan City Manager Mike West gave Stewart a hard time and threats to terminate if he did not remove to Dothan. Stewart lived in Slocomb. Which is a lot closer than Marianna Florida.
Stewart attends ( or did when he was IT Director of Dothan ) Bethel Baptist Church on Cottonwood Road. In fact Stewart would step in as Minister of Music when Bethel's was on vacation or out of town.
So his ties to Dothan were much more than Jack Mason.
There has been issues with Mason since he has been on board. Last night the computers were all having issues. The Dothan Fire ring down system used to notify fireman of calls was not operational. Phones at a lot of the Dothan Fire Station are not operational.
The paging system for the Houston County Volunteer Fire and EMS is affected by this outage.
An example of how different rules apply to different people. Or at least under Former Dothan City Manager Mike West tenure.
