BIRMINGHAM:    It seems that I have been on the road to UAB and Children’s Hospital a lot lately.

Last week a scare with 10 year old grandson Brantley. The school had called his mom that he was complaining with headaches and now with blurred vision. Emily went and got him and called me.

You might recall that two years ago the spinal fluid was backing up in his head and not draining. He was flown on Survival Flight by my good friend Mark Reynolds to Children’s Hospital after my good friend Dr. Fred Pich diagnosed it and said he needed to get to Children’s Hospital. They did surgery and Brantley has a shunt to help with the drainage.

I called Dr. Pich because my family and I think he and Mark Reynolds walks on water now. Emily called his Birmingham doctors who said bring him onto Children’s Hospital now. So Emily and I took off to Birmingham. All checked out fine and no identifying problems were identified.

We return to Dothan. He gets up the next morning and feels ok and Emily carried him to school. He attends Cottonwood. Later she was called with the same symptoms. He had a scheduled eye exam and they found he is far sighted Glasses have been ordered and we are hopeful the far sighted is the problem and the glasses will solve that problem.

Our son Spencer had surgery September 1 where he had gotten sucker punched and broke his jaw in two places. In addition to surgery where his jaw was broke in two places they removed four wisdom teeth. Yesterday was follow up appointment at UAB. The doctor will not let him return to work Until his next follow up appointment on November 1.

Our daughter in law ( Lindsey, son John’s wife )worked all day on a Saturday preparing soups, meat in a blender or other device, and other food Spencer could eat. Lindsey really took care of Spencer making sure he got the nourishment food wise. But he has lost 20 pounds throughout  this venture.

TODAY is Spencer’s Birthday. While he can not enjoy steak, we want to Wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

And I never posted grandson Brantley’s birthday the first of the month where he turned 10. So belated Happy Birthday to Brantley.

THANK YOU for all of the prayers and text when we carried Brantley to Birmingham. It was a scare because of the blurred vision. And thank you for the prayers for Spencer during his surgery and recovery period. He was ready and wanting to return to work and disappointed when the doctor told him he could not. And thanks to his Supervisors and management for working with him.
