DOTHAN: 5:15 pm Dothan Police spotted a vehicle on Edgewood Avenue that was reported stolen earlier today. The officer "under" the blue lights activated the blue lights for the vehicle to stop.
The person " in front of" the blue lights decided, NO. And a brief chase encountered.
At West Mead and Edgewood the vehicle did an extremely unique and creative parking maneuver. He went between signs, struck a tree, slid the rear end around after impact with the tree, turning the vehicle stolen between a telephone pole and the tree.
The brain of the suspect then told his feet, RUN! So he ran.
The Dothan Police Officer is a frequent attender of the City of Dothan Police Training Center. So the officers, as all officers, work out and practice their abilities to run. The officer abandoned the police car and began foot chase of the suspect.
Multiple Officers, to include Houston County Sheriff Deputies, had the area covered in seconds. The visual sighting of the suspect was lost for a brief period of time.
Dothan Police has a officer on the force. This officer does not talk often but is a very good officer which pays a lot of attention. When this officer does speak most everyone tends to listen. In fact, this officer is probably one of the few officers who can even get Chief Steve Parrish to listen.
This officer is the K-9 Officer. The K-9 officer was turned onto the trail and the suspect was located attempting to exit an abandoned house through the window. The K-9 Officer did not speak and a wise move on the suspect to surrender before the K-9 Officer did speak.
Dothan Police and Houston County Sheriff Deputies had the area sealed off so the suspect could not get out of the block.
The suspect is in custody. The stolen car is recovered but suffered damage. Dothan Criminal Investigation Division is conducting the investigation.
Great job to the officer who spotted the suspect vehicle and all Dothan Police and Houston County Sheriff Deputies who quickly covered the area and prevented the suspect from escaping the perimeter.
Sorry the officer who never talks did not get to leave his re"marks" but was out and headed the suspects way.
