DOTHAN:   5:44 pm     Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Police to 105 Tuscany Lane to a burglary in progress.

Within a short period of time multiple Dothan Police Officers and a Houston County Sheriff Deputy were on the scene.

Law Enforcement Officers were quick to have the residence surrounded. A Dothan Police K-9 was deployed but kept on the leash. The front door was open but no active utilities reported on the residence.

Dothan Police issued verbal commands if anyone in the house to come out that they were about to deploy the K-9 Officer inside and he would bite.

Dothan Police continued to have the house surrounded while neighbors were talked to. Then officers made entry into the residence where a male subject was found inside, apparently intoxicated, breathing but unresponsive to the officers.

Dothan Fire Engine 2 ( Lakewood ) and Pilcher Ambulance were dispatched and responded. The EMS units stayed inside for a few minutes. Dothan Police K-9 was returned to the police car.

The EMS unit and Fire Department returned to service. No person was transported by EMS or law enforcement.

Turns out the owner of the house lets people stay there. The utilities are not active and have not been since June 2019. The people who are staying there are of questionable character.

Dothan Police could not wake the person who appeared to be intoxicated. The subject was breathing but unresponsive to the police.

No medical issues from EMS examination. Subject was not trespassing but had left the front door open. Therefore no lawful reason for the police to make an arrest. Subject was left, Police returned to service as did Dothan Fire Engine 2 and Pilcher Ambulance.

GOOD JOB to law enforcement. Quick and effective response. Verbal commands were given about K-9 deployment but the officers made the right decision is pausing before deployment as they investigated further.

Very good decisions made on behalf of the men and women in law enforcement in the manner things were handled.

Dothan Police Lt. Pepper Mock is the Patrol Shift Commander who was in charge of the scene.
