6:13 PM Motor Vehicle Accident With injuries Ross Clark and Phil Forrester Road

DOTHAN:   4:58 PM    Dothan 911 dispatched a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment. The accident location was Phil Forrester Road and Ross Clark Circle which is near Webb Road and Ross Clark Circle.

Dothan Fire Engine 5 ( Eastside ) arrived they called for additional resources. Dothan Fire Heavy Rescue, the semi trailer and equipment, was dispatched along with Dothan Fire Engine 1 ( Central ) and Truck 1 ( Central ) along with Battalion Chief Pete Webb.

Dothan Police Department on the scene and in charge of the accident investigation. Dothan Police Patrol Shift Commander Lt. Chris Watson was on the scene.

This accident involved a SUV, smaller SUV, which was traveling south on Ross Clark Circle. The SUV struck a wet spot in the road and hydroplaned. The SUV then traveled off the circle and into the parking lot of a semi trailer repair place. There was a empty semi trailer in the parking lot and the SUV went under the semi.

The driver escaped injuries. The right front passenger was trapped and required extrication. By the Grace of God the car tilted enough to the left and the trailer lifted up enough the passenger did not receive life threatening injuries.

Dothan Fire tied the semi trailer to Dothan Fire Engine 1 and the winch cable on Dothan Fire Heavy Rescue semi. Dothan Fire also used poles to steady the semi trailer. This was required while attempting to keep the patient calm and treat the injuries until extrication could take place.

The patient was extricated and transported emergency to the hospital by Pilcher Ambulance.

Knight's Wrecker responded with two wreckers. One was a heavy duty wrecker for large trucks.

DOTHAN FIRE 

The heavy rescue trailer is a product of Homeland Security which serves this region of the State of Alabama. The trailer is equipped with all types of emergency equipment and supplies for heavy rescue. A great asset within the City of Dothan.

With the responsibility of the trailer comes the agreement Dothan Fire will respond to areas of major damage when heavy rescue is required.

To assist in maintaining the trailer grants are administered through Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management.

Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams requires the department to routinely train with this equipment and be prepared to use it. The trailer is maintained daily to make sure the required equipment is on the truck and the equipment is ready for immediate use.

Dothan Fire was cautious as they prepared the trailer and vehicle for safety of the person in the vehicle and those working to free the injured for transport to the hospital.
