7:10 AM... Stand-off on Denton Road is Over

DOTHAN: At 7:10 AM.. Dothan Police were dispatched a person that a male on a Green Kia was running into cars on the Circle. Reports of the suspect being armed and shooting a vehicles. When officers made contact with the suspect at the Circle and Hartford Hwy. The suspect then fired at the officer before making his way into the Police K-9 Officers vehicle.

The suspect then took off on the PD vehicle and the Chase was on. The chase went around the Circle north bound towards West Main, then continued on around to Twitchell Road before cutting through yard and fences. Multiple Officers from Dothan, Houston County Deputies and ALEA were all on the scene along with Sheriff Donald Valenza.

The suspect refuse to exit the vehicle and got on Dothan Police Primary talking to Officers. Lt Scott Owens got on the radio and talked to the suspect for over an hour all the while officers and deputies were getting into place.

Lt. Owens talked calmly to the suspect keeping him calm. Lt Owens was able to talk the suspect down and he was taken into custody with out incident.

The suspect did have a gunshot wound to the stomach area and once in custody was treated and transported to a Dothan Hospital. The entire situation is under investigation at this time.

During the chase the suspect struck multiple vehicles all along the route before stopping. Police attempted to stop and block traffic before the suspect got to the intersections. At one point the suspect was traveling North in the South bound lanes almost causing multiple accidents.

Everyone involved did an outstanding job during the situation that well could have went wrong quickly.

Great job to everyone involved but especially Lt Scott Owens for his negotiations with the suspect.
