AVON: 5:27 PM Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched Cowarts Volunteer Fire Department and Ashford Fire Department to Trailer Road in Avon. A unknown chemical in the barn/garage has made the eyes burn of the homeowner.
On the arrival of Cowarts Volunteer Fire Chief Roger Nall the chemical was identified as Copper Tox. This is a old termite control product. The product was reported to have been in the barn/garage for a period of time in a glass type container. When it was picked up it was dropped and caused the chemical to spill.
Cowarts Volunteer Fire Chief Roger Nall requested that Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah be notified and to dispatch Ashford Fire Department.
On the arrival of Ashford Fire Chief Jimmy Posey and Jeff Posey the circumstances were evaluated. Upon consultation with Cowarts Fire Chief, Ashford Fire Chief, and Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah it was decided to request Dothan Fire Hazardous Materials unit to respond.
The patient who had exposure and eyes were burning was treated on the scene. The person was not transported.
