7:46 PM Structure Fire Reported At Tanglewood Apartments

DOTHAN:    7:46 PM   Dothan 911 dispatched multiple Dothan Fire Engines to Tanglewood Apartments to a structure fire.

The first engine that rolled into the scene instructed the second into the scene to lay a line in from the fire hydrant.

Dothan Fire Engine 4 ( Southside ) is assigned fire attack. The fire is isolated to the kitchen and fire attack reports the fire is out.

Dothan Fire Engine 2 ( Lakewood ) reports the fire is contained to one apartment and is out. Battalion Chief Stephen Messer instructed one fire engine company to check the adjacent apartments both next door and upstairs to make sure all occupants are ok. Chief Messer also instructed a fire company to check the overhead above the apartment where the fire was at in order to make absolutely sure there were no extensions.

Dothan Fire Engine 2 has started ventilation of the smoke in the apartment where the fire was at.

A Dothan Fire Marshall responded to investigate the cause of the fire. Pilcher Ambulance is on the scene making sure all of the fireman and residents are ok and no one is injured.

7:53 PM   the fire is under control at this time.

When fire calls come in it is the safe thing to do in rolling the required fire engine companies for the worse case fire. Tanglewood Apartments is a multi resident apartment complex. While fires are reported to be a kitchen fire the fan on top of the stove can exhaust sparks into the attic and cause more fire in the space not seen without entry into the attic space.

Dothan 911 rolls fire engines to a scene of a reported structure fire to get on the fire quick to minimize the damage. If they get there and nothing to it GREAT. The engines can return to service.

BUT... if it was not under control and the fire was growing, the necessary resources are rolling to the scene to quickly attack offensively and minimize the damage.

AGAIN SO I AM CLEAR ... the 911 Center rolls the necessary equipment in order to handle the worse case situation. When the first unit gets on the scene and they determine the resources rolling are not needed, then they can always turn that equipment around.

YOU NEVER WAIT ... until someone arrives and determines the situation and then get the necessary resources rolling. The ultimate goal is to save lives and property.
