HEADLAND - DOTHAN:    8:31 PM     Headland Police and ALEA - Trropers chased a vehicle into Dothan from Headland.

The vehicle came into Dothan on Reeves Street. The Headland and ALEA Troopers are reported to have lost the vehicle. Then the vehicle came into some parked cars at Reeves Street and North Oates.

Then ALEA - Troopers picked the vehicle up again headed towards Dothan Country Club. Then around Winding Road and Wisteria the vehicle was found abandoned and the suspect fled on foot.

Dothan Police units asked for the reason for the chase and was advised switched tag and possible drug activity.

ALEA - Troopers report the suspect fled on food into the woodline.

At this time multiple Headland Police, Houston County Sheriff Deputies, ALEA - Troopers and possible Dothan Police are in the area searching for the suspect.

At this time no suspect description.

WHAT A CLUSTER

Sorry...This chase was between Headland Police on UHF Digital radios, the Troopers on Analog VHF, Dothan Police on P25 one talk group. Houston County Sheriff Deputies on P25 another talk group.

Because of Dothan Police CALEA Chase Policy they are required to obtain certain information before they can participate in the chase. 

The "JOINT COMMUNICATIONS CENTER" is only joint because they are in one room.

But Headland Police can not talk to Dothan, Houston County or Troopers.

ALEA - Troopers can not talk to Dothan, Houston County or the Troopers. 

Houston County Sheriff Deputies can not talk to Dothan, Headland or the Troopers.

The information has to go from the patrolman to his dispatcher to the units of each agency and none can be done at the same time.

This vehicle, a white Tahoe looking vehicle came flying down Chckasaw and other streets until they ran. The reason given to Dothan Police for the pursuit was not one that Dothan could participate in the chase but only block intersections.

There is a SIMPLE solution to the communications but it would take vision. Where there is no vision their shall be officers and citizens injured or killed.

Not being critical but the vision could have been reality if people in leadership would open their minds. When someone is injured or killed that is to late.

No one was injured or killed but mark my word.

When this chase occurred Matt and I were in Cottonwood where we were working with Cottonwood Ambulance and Rescue. They were required to have one crew dedicated for the football game and one for the 911 calls. So Matt and I, both certified EVOC drivers, were helping them.

Did listen to the chase. We knew Headland notified Dothan. What we did not know is the chase was originated by Midland City Police down Highway 134 into Headland, then into Dothan.

The chase went onto or near Dothan Country Club where the person bailed from the vehicle and ran. Do not see anyone booked into or released from Dale County Jail that matches the description of charges consistent with the chase. So at this point do not know if suspect was apprehended.
