ABBEVILLE: In a regular scheduled meeting of the Abbeville City Council there was a unanimous vote for disciplinary action concerning Abbeville Police Chief Noel Vanlandingham.
A motion was made to terminate the employment of Chief Vanlandingham. That motion did not pass.
There was then a motion to suspend Chief Vanlandingham for a period of ten days, without pay. That motion passed unanimous.
These actions followed an Executive Session which lasted about 30 minutes.
Chief Vanlandingham was represented by Attorneys Dusty Fowler and Steve Etheridge. The City of Abbeville is represented by Attorney Spence Danzey.
The stated offense given was Insubordination. The specifics was not given of the offense. Chief Vanlandingham is reported to be receiving a letter on Tuesday outlining the details of the allegations of Insubordination.
Under the city policy. as I understand, there are some steps given to employees of due process procedure. Those steps will be reviewed and decisions made accordingly.
While some indicate the ten days begin tomorrow that might and might not be accurate. Because the allegations have to be outlined and Vanlandingham has to be given the opportunity to exercise his rights of due process.
Stay tuned.
