HOUSTON COUNTY:      The Alabama Department of Emergency Management has the state divided into 7 geographical regions. Each region ranges from eight to twelve counties.


Houston County, Henry County, Dale County, Barbour County, Pike County, Crenshaw County, Butler County, Covington County, Coffee County and Geneva County make up Region B.


The divisions represent the operational "response" structure for the state.


Houston County is a hub center for supplies for counties in Region B of the State of Alabama. 


On Thursday, Alabama Emergency Management, Alabama Department of Public Health, and Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management was host to some 82 agencies for supplies for Region B.


Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah, who was assisted by Geneva County Emergency Management Director Brian Smith, and Corey with the Alabama Department of Public Health coordinated and managed the distribution of these supplies.


But not only coordination, actually manpower. All three leaders, were driving forklifts, push fork lifts, and lifting boxes loading the some 82 vehicles in and out of the Houston County Farm Center where the supplies have been stored.


When COVID struck, Mr. John Watson was kind enough to help Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management out by providing a building for the storage of supplies that was secure. After the first year the supplies were moved to the Houston County Farm Center. That location made it more difficult to manage the inventory of supplies.


Everyone worked hard Thursday, and by working hard, manual labor loading, lifting and keeping inventory of everything.


The Alabama Emergency Management Director, Brian Hastings has resigned and Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has appointed an Acting Director. Now the second in command of Alabama Emergency Management has resigned. This leaves the top two posts of Alabama Emergency Management with Interiem Management.


The entire Alabama Emergency Management for the State needs re-organization and re-structured by those who know what it takes to operate in emergencies.
