DOTHAN: 9:46 AM Dothan Police SRT Team is just concluding a operation at Red Carpet Inn located in the 2800 block of Ross Clark Circle.
The SRT Team is basically what many refer to as SWAT Team.
Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish and Dothan Fire Deputy Chief Chris Etheridge were on the scene.
Police Chief Steve Parrish said Dothan Police have been on the scene since about 5:30 AM. Dothan Police received a call of a potential barricaded suspect in a room at Red Carpet Inn.
Dothan Police responded and attempted to make contact with the individual in the room. The officers heard what sounded like a firearm chamber. The suspect had broken out the picture window of the room.
Dothan Police first attempted to make contact via telephone without success. A throw phone was deployed into the room which is a part of Dothan Police SRT Team stand operating procedures. That also failed.
Dothan Police SRT then deployed tear gas into the room and then SRT and a Dothan Police K-9 made entry into the room. The suspect was taken into custody.
Dothan Police Criminal Investigators are sorting out the details. Dothan Police Crime Scene Tech's are on the scene gathering evidence.
Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish expressed his thanks to the men and women in the Dothan Police Department and their actions to make this a safe ending. Chief Parrish also praised the men and women who are part of the SRT who make the sacrifices of placing themselves in life and death situations. The training and safety precision they deploy is above all in making sure everyone goes home.
This situation appears to be drug related on all sides of the situation. Full restitution will be sought on the costs of the SRT deployment and costs to the City of Dothan for a thug who would not surrender when police contacted him.
