DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -Attorneys for Alabama Governor Kay Ivey are asking a judge to move a lawsuit challenging the state’s face coverings law to Montgomery. The suit, brought by five plaintiffs, also names State Health Officer Doctor Scott Harris as a defendant.
Filed Thursday in the Northern District of Alabama, that suit claims Ivey and Harris overstepped legal bounds when they ordered face coverings be worn. Also challenged are other controversial restrictions issued in response to corona virus, blamed with over 2,500 deaths in the state.
In a court filing on Sunday, the Alabama attorney general’s office argued that the proper venue for hearing the case is Montgomery, where Ivey and Harris reside.
