GORDON:    10:46 AM   Recently Gordon Police Chief Jim Mock was the first on the scene of a medical emergency.

On the arrival of Gordon Police Chief Mock the patient was not breathing. Chief Mock immediately called for EMS and initiated CPR.

Chief Mock could be heard going 1 - 2 - 3...breath, 1 - 2 ...breath. And for 18 minutes solid Chief Mock was doing chest compressions.

Ashford Rescue was dispatched to the medical emergency. When Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched Ashford Rescue and advised them CPR was in progress Ashford Rescue mutual aid requested Dothan Fire Department to respond.

Only about 10% of the EMS calls require advanced life support. Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams has never refused the mutual aid assistance request. And he would only do that if all of the City of Dothan resources were all on calls and Dothan would not be protected. Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams and members of Dothan Fire Department assist incoming ambulances into the Dothan hospitals daily with advanced life support.

Chief Mock is to be applauded big time for his efforts to save the life. Ashford Rescue and Dothan Fire Department are to be applauded for their response and efforts to save a life.

From the time of arrival of Chief Mock and then requests EMS. When dispatched and on the scene was 18 minutes. The distance is what caused the 18 minute response and no one delayed in getting on the scene.

THANKS to each of you for your hard work. THANKS to Chief Mock for his willingness to jump in there and swiftly going to work performing CPR.

A person can go up to 10 minutes without a heartbeat. There are few victims that survive after that time frame has passed. For each minute which elapses and a victim has no heart beat, or CPR being perfomed, 10 % of potential survivability is lost.

CPR may resuscitate a victim who is a child or an infant. In the case of an adult who is unconscious and in ventricular fibrillation, the only way to resusitate the victim is the electrical shock which can be obtained by a defibrillator or an AED.

CPR needs to be initiated immediately for an unresponsive/pulseless victim unless a defibrillator or an AED is present
