Alabama Power is planning to close nearly half of its business offices across the state.
The company currently has 86 offices, but only 46 will remain after the company decided to combine some locations while customers are increasingly paying online. “To more effectively serve our customers’ evolving needs, we are better positioning our operations by combining selected business offices and Appliance Centers across our service territory,” Alabama Power spokesperson Beth Thomas said on Saturday. “More of our customers pay their bills and manage their accounts electronically and electronic payments are our fastest growing payment channels.”
The 40 closing offices will shut their doors by August 30. See a list of the closing locations below.
Thomas added customers can also set up auto pay online, or pay in-person at an authorized location. According to Thomas, there are more than 2,500 authorized payment locations at local retailers like Walmart, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Fred’s and Piggly Wiggly. “More of our customers want to do business with us electronically and fewer are walking into offices. And as mentioned, we’ve also seen more customers using authorized payment locations, with multiple locations available in communities across the state that offer convenient hours on nights and weekends. Customers can conveniently pay and manage their accounts at these locations while they’re picking up their groceries or other goods,” Thomas said. “In fact, most offices that are closing have at least five authorized payment locations within a five-mile radius.”
