Alabama Trauma Control - Well - Are They On Diversion Or Are They Not

DOTHAN: This issue has been run into before and presented itself again this morning.
Leadership in the EMS World in Alabama developed a system referred to ATCC " Alabama Trauma Control Center. That is where you call the ATCC when a trauma patient and they tell the EMS provider the nearest trauma center.
Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance notified ATCC of the trauma patient. They were instructed to transport the patient to Southeast Health. The Dothan 911 Center advised Southeast Health was on ED diversion.
Dothan Fire responded ATCC advised they were accepting patients. Dothan Fire checked again with ATCC and they told them to divert to Flowers Hospital. Then Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance diverted to Flowers Hospital with the trauma patient.
NOT FOR SURE - think the trauma patient was a fall patient.
Experiences like this have occurred with ATCC. Columbia Rescue one day notified ATCC they had a stroke patient. They were instructed to transport the Stroke patient to Medical Center Enterprise.
When ATCC was questioned they advised both Dothan hospitals were on diversion. Flowers said they were not on diversion. Naturally Southeast Health will not answer any questions so could not find out truthful answer.
The concept, well that is good. In reality someone needs to be put in the field again to remember what actually occurs with the EMS units. Then return to their bureaucracy and re-think the management of emergencies.
