MADRID - HOUSTON COUNTY: A great big THANK YOU to the staff of the Alabama Welcome Center on Highway 231at Alabama - Florida line, and to Chan Elliot, Fire Chief of Madrid Fire Department and Madrid Baptist Church.
The staff of Alabama Welcome Center called me this morning because of some travelers in distress. They were traveling for Thanksgiving and hit a deer. Their vehicle is disabeled and not able to go any further.
The staff was able to get them a room at a hotel in Dothan. A rental car could not be gotten until 1:30 PM.
I called Chief Chan Elliot if he could get someone with Madrid Baptist Church for their mini bus to pick this family of five, parents and three children, and transport them to the hotel. So Chief Elliot is doing so himself.
I told the family to call me at 1 PM and myself or someone who works for me would pick them up and carry them to Enterprise Rent A Car.
TOYOTA OF DOTHAN has been great for rental cars when travelers are in trouble. Their insurance required Enterprise Rent A Car.
The Town of Taylor had two mini buses for sale recently and I almost got one. There is a need for this as travelers coming through are in a accident and stranded. I have called on Mt. Enon Baptist Church and Madrid Baptist Church several times which have always helped.
I reached out to the church community and Harbor House who had buses trying to get someone to be on call. The vans sit at the churches all week except Wednesday and Sunday's. But as of yet no one has stepped up to the plate.
Thought that was the purpose of churches which was to help others.
But thanks to Mt. Enon and Madrid Baptist. If we can contact someone they are always willing.
GREAT BIG THANKS to the Alabama Welcome Center Staff for going above and beyond to help these travelers.
