SLOCOMB - GENEVA COUNTY:    This weekend customer(s) of Hendrix Farm Produce on Highway 52 as you go into Slocomb contacted me concerning Hendrix Farm Produce.

The customers were upset because they learned after this produce season, which ends late August or September, the State of Alabama is forcing Hendrix Farm Produce to a new location in order for ALDOT to build a four lane.

Today I visited the 5th generation owner, Mrs. Rhonda Hendrix.

LET ME FIRST SAY, AND BE VERY CLEAR, VERY CLEAR, Mrs. Rhonda Hendrix had nothing but compliments to say about ALDOT ( Alabama Department of Transportation ) Officials. They have been very nice to Mrs. Hendrix.

Mrs. Hendrix is emotional because this 8/10 of an acre has been through five ( 5 ) generations of her family. This business has been something she and her family has counted on since the early 1990's. And her grandson was looking forward to the day he could take over and be the 6th generation.

MRS. HENDRIX DID NOT CONTACT ME ABOUT THIS STORY. HER CUSTOMERS CONTACTED ME.

AND AGAIN, SHE HAD NOTHING BUT COMPLIMENTS OF ALDOT.

But the compliments do not take the sentimental value and meaning away from what five generations have built. We spent a few minutes this morning in the rockers talking. While we were talking the customers were in a steady stream in and out. Many greeted by Mrs. Hendrix by name.

The customer base comes from several states into Geneva County. Mrs. Hendrix loves and appreciates each customer who is in and out. When I told her customers contacted me over the weekend Mrs. Hendrix teared up that her customers think that much of her.

ALDOT is making plans to four lane Highway 52. The current four lane stops as you enter Geneva County on the east side of Malvern. As we understand the four lane will curve missing some businesses but will re-enter the current Highway 52 at or near Hendrix Farm Produce. The exact route we do not know.

Hendrix Produce plans to re-locate near the current location. The problem is finding adequate land and that the new road will location that will be customer friendly with access.

If you want farm produce, and those white acre peas looked awesome - even better cooked and ready to eat, visit Hendrix Farm Produce. You might enter as a new customer but I promise you - when you leave, it will be as a friend.

ALDOT has a sign west of Hendrix Farm Produce which reads; PUBLIC INPUT NEEDED VISIT ALDOT WEBSITE SR-52 NEW ALIGNMENT AND ADDITIONAL LANES.

Mrs. Hendrix had compliments on Slocomb Mayor Rob Hinson.
