ASHFORD:    6:00 PM  Ashford Mayor Carol Barfield and members of the Ashford City Council met tonight for their regular scheduled meeting.

Mayor Barfield placed the Ashford City Clerk on Paid Administrative leave pending final approval of the Ashford City Council. Tonight in a unanimous vote the Ashford City Council approved Mayor Barfield's recommendation for termination.

Ashford Downtown Redevelopment Authority Director, Kim Vann, announced several exciting things coming up with Ashford redevelopment.

Mrs. Vann announced this Thursday, February 20th, 6:30 PM, the master plan will be presented in a meeting at Watermark Church. Ashford Downtown Redevelopment Authority is working very hard to make Downtown Ashford a destination in shopping, citizen fun and enjoyment, a beautiful downtown city, and a place business wants to locate.

Mrs. Vann announced March 13, 2020 is Spring Day. A time for downtown fun, music, 30 vendors for food and other items. A lot of fun for all ages.

The current salary for Ashford Council Members is $ 200.00 a month and current salary for Ashford Mayor is $ 1,000.00 a month. In a motion by Councilman Gary Gibson the salaries remain the same for the next term of office.

The Ashford Council voted for a public hearing on the APC Revision of Zoning Ordinance on signs. The public hearing will be March 2, 5:30 PM, Ashford Senior Citizens Center.

The Ashford City Council, on the recommendation of Ashford Police Chief, to advertise for uncertified police officer of which Ashford would send to Police Academy. The Chief explained the person hired would be required to sign a contract with the City of Ashford within a certain time frame they would be required to pay back the police academy cost and salary paid while attending the police academy.

The Ashford City Council voted to advertise for vacant positions of City Clerk, Outside Utility Worker, and Uncertified Police Officer. Applications can be obtained from the City Hall in Ashford, located at 525 North Broadway Street in Ashford, Al. 36312, phone number 334-899-3366.

The Ashford City Council did not vote to advertise with RSN. However we are going to do for free!!!

The Ashford City Council voted to hold a public hearing on JACK'S Restaurant coming to Ashford. The meeting is set for March 2, 2020, 5:00 PM, Ashford Senior Citizens Center. JACK'S Restaurant wants to locate on Highway 84 near the Inland Station. Currently after leaving Dothan, there is only the Inland Station, and a BBQ place on Highway 84 between Dothan Alabama and Donalsonville Georgia to eat. Councilman Gary Gibson abstained because he is the owner of BIG MIKE'S ( great place to eat ) in Ashford and Headland.

Following the public hearing the Ashford City Council will take a vote on JACK'S at the next regular Ashford City Council meeting.
