The Attorney General provides official opinions on questions of law at the request of designated public officials on issues arising in the course of their duties.
While these formal legal opinions are not binding in any way, they have historically been given "great respect" and "great weight" by the courts.
What is an Attorney General Opinion?
An Attorney General Opinion is a statement of the Attorney General’s official views on a legal question relating to a public officer’s duties. An Attorney General Opinion, also called a “formal opinion”, thus represents the Attorney General’s official position on a point of law.
An Attorney General Opinion is issued at the request of someone authorized to request such an opinion.
Attorney General Opinions are researched much like opinions issued by appellate courts and require a similar analytical and drafting effort. Attorney General Opinions are not binding on the courts, but they are usually given careful consideration and respect.
Opinion - Not The Rule of Law
One Attorney General issued an opinion electronic bingo was legal. The next Attorney General said electronic bingo was illegal.
When I served as Coroner the Attorney General issued an opinion. After I challenged that opinion the Attorney General issued another opinion "modifying" the original opinion.
Some think because they have an Attorney General opinion they are legal. But some will challenge that opinion, well some are going to challenge that opinion.
Like electronic bingo. Which Attorney General do we believe. The one who said yes or the one who said no.
QUIDDIPPERS CAUTION
Some are quaddippers. And the Attorney General opinion will be challenged in a court of law to see if legal.
While this article is vague, RSN will hold the official accountable. No matter how many times he alleges RSN is a bully.
RSN is not a bully. Just if RSN is the only one standing - the wonder is going to be removed. The facts will be presented and a court of law will decide
