Birmingham teen convicted of misdemeanor in fatal shooting of Huffman classmate Courtlin Arrington

A Birmingham teen has been convicted in the 2018 shooting death of his classmate Courtlin Arrington inside a Huffman High School classroom.


A Jefferson County jury on Thursday found 18-year-old Michael Jerome Barber guilty of criminally negligent homicide, which is a Class A misdemeanor. Barber was initially charged with reckless manslaughter -- a Class B felony. The felony charge would have carried a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, while the misdemeanor charges has a maximum sentence of one year in prison.
