LifeSouth needs blood donors after Sally to maintain the blood supply at local hospitals and share with those greatly impacted by the storm. There is an extreme shortage of type O blood and platelets of all blood types.
The storm caused blood drives and blood donor centers to close, causing a decline in donations, which directly affects the blood supply. LifeSouth urges the community to visit a donor center or a bloodmobile and donate.
If you do not know your blood type or have never given blood before, now is a perfect time to start. Donors must be at least 17 or 16 with parental permission, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. A photo ID is also required.
For more information or to find a blood drive visit lifesouth.org or call 1-888-795-2707.
