GORDON: Gordon Volunteer Fire, Pansey Volunteer Fire and Alabama Forestry Commission have been on the scene of a large outdoor fire on County Road 85 and Paul Jeffcoat Road.
They were working the fire when the serious/critical injury motor vehicle accident call came in on County Road 4 at Fire Department Road. Gordon Fire left the outdoor fire briefly to respond to the motor vehicle accident. On their arrival found two vehicles crashed with major - major damage and one fatality.
After the accident the Gordon Volunteer Fire returned to the outdoor fire. Gordon was originally on the scene of the fire at 5:50 PM and just cleared the scene at 9:28 PM.
While Gordon Fire was en route to the scene of the accident Pansey Fire was dispatched to respond to the outdoor fire.
One Alabama Forestry arrived fire breaks were plowed in order to stop the spreading the fire.
Tonight the east side of Houston County has been swamped. Ashford, Cowarts and EMA were on the scene of a structure fire on Hugh Street just completing the scene and Cowarts being released from the scene.
While the Ashford Structure was on going Gordon Volunteer Fire was dispatched to the large outdoor fire.
At the same time Lucy, Gordon, Ashford Rescue, Cottonwood Rescue, Cottonwood Fire, Cottonwood Police, Houston County Sheriff Departments, ALEA - Troopers and Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management responded to the motor vehicle accident which resulted in a fatality.
A member of Cowarts Volunteer Fire Department is a Paramedic with Dothan Fire Department. He volunteers his time with the Volunteer Fire Department when off duty from Dothan Fire. He responded with Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management to the serious motor vehicle accident to assist but unfortunately the person was deceased.
At the same time as the serious/critical accident Lovetown Volunteer Fire was dispatched to an outdoor fire.
A very busy night across the east end of Houston County tonight. Law Enforcement - Fire - EMS - EMA - Forestry spending their night serving the citizens and guest of Houston County.
The 17 Volunteer Fire Departments and 5 EMS in Houston County respond to over 7,300 fire and EMS calls per year. All of the departments operate on less than $ 1 million dollars and depend on donations in order to save lives and property.
There is no way Houston County could financially sustain the cost of providing fire and EMS to the citizens of the county without the people who volunteer their time and energy to the citizens.
So thanks to those who give of their time.
