Coffee County EMA urges residents to begin preparing for Hurricane Season 2021

COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — It’s almost that time of the year, Hurricane season. That’s why storm officials are urging residents to start preparing for any potential tropical storms.


Hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th but some people are concerned hurricane season could come sooner this year.


WDHN spoke to Coffee County Emergency Management Agency Director James Brown, to learn whether there is reason to be concerned.


“They’re gonna start providing us with the tropical storm updates starting on the 15th of May,” Brown said. “Before those…they would just come in if we had a storm coming. After the first of June, they keep it going all the time.”


Storm officials are considering moving the season up but that’s mainly for tropical storm preparedness which also happens year round. However, thanks to new technology, storms can be tracked better. But that doesn’t mean residents shouldn’t be prepared in advance.
