REHOBETH:   During the election for Houston County School Superintendent a article was written concerning the election and timing of certain items.

WTVY - TV did a interview with six teachers from Rehobeth Elementary School and complaints, directing those complaints towards the incumbent school superintendent.

The issue involving the third grade teachers at Rehobeth Elementary School was allowed to grow because Greg Yance - Rehobeth Elementary Principal, was not allowed to address the situation and his recommendations were ignored by Central Office Administration.  This created a negative environment and was unfair to all involved.  It appears the Rehobeth Elementary School community supported these teachers of excellent reputations.  A situation that could have been addressed was ignored and created additional ongoing problems. Sadly this created anxiety and even fear for personal safety that was communicated to Superintendent David Sewell.

Several people at least owe Mr. Yance and the six third grade teachers an apology.

Yance's record at Rehobeth Elementary School includes three straight A report cards. The scores are from the Alabama State Board of Education.

Each grade of Rehobeth Elementary School was the highest score in Houston County Schools for that year.  In a survey by each Houston County School faculty, Greg Yance was the highest rated principal in the Houston County School System overall by his faculty and in each individual category.  Just the other day Rehobeth Elementary was named runner-up as best public school.

The people I have talked to from Girard and Rehobeth Elementary, who worked for Yance, like him, respect him and show that he is an excellent principal. And I will agree the Girard Middle School termination was an apparent retaliation move on the part of a former Dothan City School Superintendent. ( several Dothan City School superintendents ago ).

The election is over and the changing of guards occurs January 1, 2021. Any personal issues should be forgotten. Any attempts to discredit ANY OF THOSE INVOLVED on either side or bad feelings from the election would only further point out attempts to backstab some educators and non educators.

All involved, David Sewell, Brandy White, Greg Yance, I have respect for. The six teachers I do not know but a lot of people support them so they must be good teachers. Elections are over and for the good of the system all need to get along.

There are always three sides to each story. Somewhere in the middle is the truth. Not just in this situation but in life period. But I will apologize to Greg Yance and the six teachers at Rehobeth Elementary School on calling them out. And I understand their frustrations over issues not being resolved.
