DOTHAN:    On Thursday evening Troy King, candidate for Congress was in Dothan.

King, who served as Alabama Attorney General, is running for United States Congressman in the seat being vacated by Martha Roby which is the 2nd Congressional District in Alabama.

This district is located in the southeastern portion of Alabama. The district covers Autauga, Bullock, Butler, Coffee, Conecuh, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Elmore, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike Counties.

According to the 2010 U.S. Census data, the population of this district is 678,860 people. The gender makeup is 51.5% female, 48.5% male. The racial balance is 66.3% white, 29.7% black, 1% Asian, 3.3% Hispanic.

The reported 2010 unemployment was 11.2%. The median household income is reported as $ 41,360.00. The high school graduation rate is 82.4% and the college graduation rate is reported as 20.7%.

King was at LaPrilla tonight meeting some friends. Each one there knew Troy King and the group met with him discussing issues and fund raising.

The DEMOCRATIC candidates are Phyllis Harvey-Hall, Nathan Mathis.

The REPUBLICAN candidates are Thomas W. Brown, Jr., Jeff Coleman, Terri Hasdorff, Troy King, Barry Moore, Robert Rogers and Jessica Taylor.

The deadline to qualify for this office was November 8, 2019.

The primary election is March 3, 2020 and the general election is November 3, 2020.

In the primary election the registered voter must decide to vote in the Democratic race or the Republican race. If a candidate does not receive 50% plus one of the votes cast their will be a run off election. The date is unknown of the run off election.

The winner of the Republican primary and Democratic primary will face each other on November 3, 2020.
