DOTHAN: 12:04 PM Cottonwood Ambulance and Rescue wishes to say a great big THANKS to Joey Pilcher and Pilcher Ambulance Service for their assistance today.
Cottonwood Ambulance and Rescue was in the middle of transporting a patient to Southeast Health. In the 2100 block of Cottonwood Road the rear tire blew out.
Cottonwood Ambulance and Rescue requested Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatch Pilcher Ambulance to take the patient to Southeast Health, emergency. Mr. Joey Pilcher of Pilcher Ambulance so graciously dispatched a ambulance to transport.
Ashford Rescue was on stand by in the event Pilcher Ambulance was unable to assist so a second backup was in place.
Cottonwood Ambulance and Rescue has daily required safety checks they make each and every day. But some things are not controllable.
Thanks to Matt Boster and Henry Raley, Knight's Wrecker Service and Tri-State Commercial Tire for their assistance and getting the ambulance back in service.
SAVING LIVES - a team effort to work together hand in hand.
All EMS services have the same goal and priority as other emergency responders of saving lives. Funding becomes an issue for all services as they struggle to provide services to save lives.
What most people do not realize, when you respond to medical emergencies, payment is not a question on the list of questions you ask. You do not ask for a credit card to swipe prior to transport.
The EMS service makes an emergency run to a patient and transport to an Emergency Room on a 911 call. The bill for services on that 911 run around $ 650.00. And Medicaid only pays to the EMS Service around $ 125.00.
When you figure the ambulance purchase, monitors around $ 30,000.00, stretchers, equipment required in the ambulance, general liability insurance, regular insurance, workmen's compensation, salaries, fuel, headquarters, ambulance maintenance, tires, and other costs associated with EMS.
And Medicaid only pay 19% of the total charges and takes forever to pay that.
It makes it difficult for volunteer and private EMS to survive.
A TEAM EFFORT to save lives.
