COTTONWOOD:    What are your plans for Mother's Day 2019? Spend the day with your family? Your mother? Your wife? Your children who are mother's?

Well Cottonwood Volunteer Fire was also one of the 17 Volunteer Fire and 5 EMS across Houston County outside the city limits of Dothan who did not spend their Mother's Day 2019 that way.

At around 5 AM Houston County Sheriff 911 started paging departments who volunteer their time across this county. The paid "officials" spent their day with their mother's, children, daughter's who are mother's.

Well paid "officials" other than District 2 Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield. This afternoon Commissioner Sinquefield spent his Sunday afternoon on a fire.

Anyway Cottonwood Volunteer Fire responded around 5 AM to a Billy Snell Road structure fire.

Then Cottonwood Volunteer Fire responded to Gordon to assist in a large hay fire in an effort to save the hay for a farmer. Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Chief Randy Hall jumped on some of the farmer's equipment and pushed the hay from the structure as much as possible in order to save as much as he could.

Then Cottonwood Volunteer Fire responded to reports of trees down. The volunteers did things outside the scope of their purpose, and handled traffic and cleared trees from the road.

Well then, about 2:01 PM Lovetown Volunteer Fire and Cottonwood Volunteer Fire responded to a structure fire again on Billy Snell Road.

WAIT...do not go see your family, your mother, your wife, your daughter if she is a mother...you have already missed being in church with your family....

AT 3:23 PM Cottonwood Volunteer Fire was dispatched to Melton Road south of Gordon to a structure fire. Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched Cottonwood Volunteer Fire to assist Gordon Volunteer Fire, Lucy Volunteer Fire, Pansey Volunteer Fire and Ashford Volunteer Rescue.

Close to 6 PM, finally ( shut up Stokes cause something else will happen ) the volunteer fireman returned to Cottonwood.

Oh...tomorrow...these volunteer fireman get to go to their real jobs and work. But their Mother's Day was spent fighting fires and/or EMS as one of the over 7,200 calls a year.

And the Houston County Commission CAN NOT AFFORD to foot this bill. If they can, no new money is needed.

Houston County Commissioner of District 2, Doug Sinquefield, joined the volunteer fireman on Mother's day. But Commissioner Sinquefield responds often when notified.
