COWARTS: This morning Houston County Sheriff Deputies were at a tree down on Ommusse Road at the city limits of Cowarts sign.
The Deputy was dispatched to a burglary. So the Deputy could handle the call the Houston County Sheriff 911 Center paged Cowarts Volunteer Fire to respond to the tree down.
The Cowarts Volunteer Fire responded and cleared the roadway.
Again, not the primary function of the Volunteer Fire. But they donate their time and energies assisting and saving their county and city a lot of money.
Cowarts Volunteer Fire is one of the 17 volunteer fire departments that help answer over 7,200 fire and EMS calls in this county outside the city limits of Dothan for under $ 1 million dollars.
They also save money on calling Houston County Road and Bridge out to cut trees.
Today was Mother's Day. This was only one of the many Houston County Volunteers who left their homes and families to protect their community.
