NEWTON, PINCKARD, MIDLAND CITY, NAPIER FIELD, GRIMES:    This past Friday morning at about 10:30 AM CST the time allotted by the Dale County Commission to 5 Mayors in the south end of Dale County expired.

The next meeting, which should be a called special meeting, the Dale County Commission needs to take official action.

The Mayors of Newton, Pinckard, Midland City, Napier Field and Grimes developed a plan. At the on set the Mayors angered those who have volunteered in Fire and EMS. The reason was meetings where they were not included.

Dale County Commission Chairman Mark Blakenship, members of the Dale County Commission, and Alabama State Representative Steve Clouse developed a EMS plan. A fee of $ 5.00 was added for EMS. The local legislation passed.

Other than Midland City who purchased a new ambulance several years ago but did not really give a lot of thought to the operation of the ambulance, the Towns of Newton, Pinckard, Napier Field and Grimes never did anything to provide EMS for their citizens.

Ozark - Dale County 911 would pull their hair out attempting to get ambulance coverage if ECHO EMS was unable to respond. Once the $ 5.00 fee passed the Mayors wanted control.

A "mind only" plan was developed by the 5 Mayors. They instructed their attorney to reserve the name SOUTH DALE EMS. But at the last Dale County Commission no detailed business plan had been developed. When pressed the Mayors could not give specific operational details.

Midland City Mayor, who apparently fell of the wagon and bumped her head somewhere, in my opinion, out Jeffery Atkins in charge. The 3 medics and 1 driver who had been making the runs were told they could no longer run.

Within the last couple of weeks the Midland City Town Council has asked them to return. The Grimes Town Council told the Mayor forget your plan. The Mayor resigned and Grimes went with ECHO EMS to handle their EMS calls.

UNCONFIRMED reports are Napier Field is going to have ECHO EMS handle their calls.

The Town Council in Pinckard has ended the Mayor's plan and ECHO EMS will handle their calls.

The Newton Mayor, while UNCONFIRMED at this time, has not conceded to to ECHO EMS and attempting to forge forward with South Dale EMS.

The Dale County Commission needs to override the Mayor and tell him they are going to do what is best for the citizens and ECHO EMS is going to handle.

ECHO EMS has put crews on 24/7. If the Mayors finally concur on the ECHO EMS plan then a station will be placed on Highway 231 central to the area.

LIFE IS NOT TIME for no plans. And these Mayors have wasted time and perhaps could have cost lives.

The next Dale County Commission Meeting it is time - the Dale County Commission need their big boy pants on, tell the Newton Mayor to shut up, and put ECHO EMS to making the calls.
