DALE COUNTY:    In late December Dale County Emergency Management Director Kurt McDaniel began experiencing symptoms of COVID.

Then EMA Director Kurt McDaniel was diagnosed with COVID.

In a recent discussion with McDaniel he said this was the sickest he has ever been. So he cautions people to be careful, follow the CDC guidelines, and get plenty of rest.

It was just this week that McDaniel returned to work. He attended the Dale County Commission Meeting. McDaniel described the COVID as taking your energy. He suffers from low energy as he tries to re-enter every days tasks.

The Dale County Emergency Management Office is a one man office. The Dale County Commission furnishes ZERO support staff or assistants to their Emergency Management Office. This makes it difficult for a lone Emergency Management Director when sick or has to be out of town. Volunteers assist McDaniel in the performance of the emergency management job when he has to be out.

McDaniel was available by phone. One County Commissioner, Frankie Wilson, called and checked on McDaniel while he was out with COVID.

People with COVID feel abandoned. When in the hospital and in nursing homes families are not allowed or limited in visits. People need to remember to stay in contact with people with COVID and check on them. We commend County Commissioner Frankie Wilson for staying in contact with EMA Director McDaniel and keeping check on his well being while out sick with COVID.

Emergency Workers are the ones who check on people and not often are they checked on when sick. So thank you Commissioner Wilson for you taking the time to check on others.

Again, Dale County Emergency Management Director Kurt McDaniel cautions the public to take COVID serious and use the precautions CDC issues.
