Dale County Jail Inmates Assault Corrections Officer and Refused Commands - Multiple Officers Responded

OZARK - DALE COUNTY:    DALE County Jail Correction Officers called for emergency assistance this afternoon.


Inmates in the Dale County Jail attacked a correctional officer. The correctional officer was bleeding from the head.


Multiple law enforcement agencies and units responded, Dale County Sheriff Deputies, Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson, Dale County Sheriff Chief Deputy Mason Bynum, Ozark Police Officers, Ozark Police Chief Marlos Walker, ALEA - Troopers came into the jail emergency, lights and siren.


Ozark Police reported inmates were not locking down, returning to their cells, after instructed By corrections officers.


The inmates are locked into a cell block area. A inmate had an edged weapon. 


One inmate was reported to have lacerations but the inmate causing the trouble was isolated from the others and placed in solitary confinement. 


HOW DOES A INMATE HAVE AN EDGED WEAPON.  


Inmates have 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, to watch the corrections officers and system. And with that much time they have plenty of time to devise how to defeat the system and are creative in making things.


People are in jail for doing dumb things. They are often times not in jail for being intellectually dumb.


Once I had a prisoner transport business. We transported over 700 inmates from Miami to California in one year. We had a prisoner to transport back to death row. Everytime the inmate came to Houston County the SWAT Team had to be called for him causing trouble.


I joined the transport team at the jail to have a factual discussion with him prior to transport and my expectations of him as to no trouble. He made a comment that I always remember... he was facing death by the State of Alabama. He said he had nothing to do and what could they do to him worse then what he was facing, so it was entertainment for him. Because of the frankness of our discussion he assured me we would not have any trouble with him. And we did not.


Sometimes no matter the precautions, rules and regulations, Remember they have 24/7, 365 days a year to figure around it.
