DOTHAN:    The City of Dothan TRAINING CENTER on Ennis Road. Because of the diligence of Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish and with the help of Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams the Dothan Training Center was constructed.

This was over a $ 20 million dollar project. Someone lost the place of Houston County at the table on the training center because of lack of vision. It was not the Dothan City Commission who lost the county's seat at the table on this project.

The Dothan City Commission will vote on funding $ 24,875.00 for additional equipment to train EMS staff. The equipment will help the training staff keep EMS up to date and efficient on different issues a patient might have.

This week the City of Dothan kicked off two months of basic Emergency Medical Services. Dothan Fire Department will be training persons to be Basic Emergency Medical Medics in order to save lives and provide pre-hospital care for those in need.

The Dothan Training Center, funded by Wiregrass Foundation, is open to Dothan and surrounding agencies.  Because the City of Dothan is about doing the right thing, Houston County can participate in the training facility.

Someone snoozed and the county lost.

THANKS to Dothan Commission for your contribution to save lives in providing equipment for the training of EMS.

In the 582 square miles of Houston County, well over 17,000 emergency medical calls are answered each year. Outside the corporate city limits of Dothan over 5,000 emergency medical calls are answered a year. This afternoon in Wicksburg, a critical motor vehicle accident, three ambulances transported patients. Two EMS units form Wicksburg and one from Daleville transported patients. Dothan Fire met the ambulance for advanced life support of a critical patient.

One patient died on the scene. Then Wicksburg EMS was dispatched back to the scene for another EMS medical emergency of chest pains.

The training center and the funding by the City of Dothan helps keep the EMS trained and ready for whatever is presented to them for pre-hospital care.
