Today the Dothan Fire Department rescinded the ‘No Burn’ Order which has been in effect since early June. Battalion Chief David Hasty with the Fire Prevention Division says the area has received enough rainfall over the last few days to reduce the threat of dangerous outdoor fires.
Although the ‘No Burn’ Order has been rescinded, Citizens of Dothan should be reminded that open burning is restricted within the City of Dothan year-round. According to Chief Hasty, “Open burning may only be conducted in the City for land development, when a permit has been issued by the Fire Prevention Division”. The rules pertaining to burning can be found in Chapter 38 of the Code of Ordinances at www.dothan.org.
Deputy Chief Chris Etheredge reminds everyone that even though we have received significant rainfall over the past couple of days, “everyone should be mindful of ongoing conditions and that the Department may be compelled to re-issue a ‘No Burn’ Order if soil moisture levels begin to drop again”.
