DOTHAN: Several years ago ran into the attitude in Henry County concerning graduation. The school leadership did not want to accept responsibility for a student who attended the one school all of their life.
A 30 minute crash course by Rickey Stokes to the student’s mom in how to try a court case and win resulted in the student’s once in a lifetime high school graduation. The fight opened the door for eight or nine more students.
DOTHAN HIGH SCHOOL sent out letters to students that due to 10 or more unexcused absence days the student would not be allowed to walk at graduation.
A parent read the “fine print” of the student handbook. You know the handbook the school systems use against you?
The handbook reads if you have 10 or more unexcused absence days you are not allowed to participate in ... names several activities. Normally the rules have a catch all phrase “included but not limited to ...”.
Well it appears, according to sources, it does not cover graduation ceremonies.
That has caused a flood of calls to Dothan High School.
Dothan High School will have no choice but to follow the handbook they authored!!!
