DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:    A Houston County Grand Jury issued three indictments on Erric Jones. The charges were Sodomy in the first degree.

The allegations against Jones stemmed from the grandchild of his girlfriend of ten years.

The indictments were issued on March 15, 2019. Jones was arrested and booked into the Houston County Jail on April 18, 2019. He has remained in custody since his arrest.

This week 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Butch Binford called the case for trial before 12 men and women selected as jurors.

The case went to trial and Jones was represented by Shaun McGhee of The McGhee Law Firm. Jones testified in his own behalf during the trial.

Defendants have the option to testify in a trial. If they do not make the decision to testify the state can not argue that they did not testify. The Judge issues instructions to the jury that they can not read into the fact a defendant did or did not testify while deliberating the case. However in this case the defendant did testify.

The case was presented to the jury and on Thursday the jurors were sent out to deliberate. After 20 minutes, of which some of that time was used to elect a juror foreperson, the jury returned a NOT GUILTY verdict on all three counts.

The jury verdict was late and after the Circuit Clerk's Office closed on Thursday. This morning Jones remained in the Houston County Jail awaiting the paperwork and processing to be released from the Houston County Jail.

Attorney Shaun McGhee of The McGhee Law Firm represented Jones in this case.
