Dothan Noise Ordinance Proposal

DOTHAN:  Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper and Dothan Planning and Zoning presented for discussion to the Dothan Commission changes in the noise ordinance.


The proposal presented was to change the entertainment district in downtown outside music shall stop during the week at 11 PM and on weekends at 12 AM.


The current ordinance is 50 feet and if a nuisance then law enforcement can be called.


Dothan Commissioner District Six, David Crutchfield, said he requests a change in the proposal to 1 AM. A lot of businesses in downtown Dothan have outside patios and made a lot of investment in downtown Dothan. Commissioner Crutchfield requested the changes to make allowances for these venues.


Dothan Planning and Zoning Director Todd McDonald said they received complaints on the bank construction on West Main Street. The diesel engines would crank early and idle for long periods of times. This ordinance would prohibit the construction with loud noises before 7 AM. There is a provision the City Manager could waive the restriction on request of the construction crew permitted.


The City Manager and Todd McDonald are going to tweak the proposed ordinance and it will be ready in four weeks.


THIS IS SOMETHING TO WATCH. While Dothan City Manager and Todd McDonald “claim” there are provisions of work around… CAUTION… pattern and practice of common sense is not a quality they possess.
