DISASTER EXERCISE ONLY!!!!!
The Dothan Regional Airport is going to conduct an emergency preparedness exercise involving 15 different agencies and about 40 volunteers. The daylong exercise, scheduled for September 19th , will be divided into three phases.
The first phase will begin around 10 AM and involve a simulated unauthorized weapon introduced to the sterile area during simulated passenger screening.
The second phase will began as soon as the first phase has been completed and will involve law enforcement response to a simulated terrorist weapons site.
The third phase will begin in mid-afternoon and will simulate an aircraft accident using a mock aircraft. The airport will remain open during the exercise and there will be no impact to daily operations.
Airport travelers, local businesses and neighbors should be aware of emergency response vehicles operating around the airport throughout the day.
Airport Director Adam Hartzog said the airport conducts a full-scale emergency preparedness exercise every two years involving collaboration between the airport, airlines, aircraft rescue and firefighters and mutual aid partners.
