Emergency Response In Coffee and Henry County In HOAX

ENTERPRISE - COFFEE COUNTY / HEADLAND - HENRY COUNTY:      Sitting in my office with my Manager is was freaky to hear the calls come over the radio,            “ ACTIVE SHOOTER AT ENTERPRISE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT ”

“ ACTIVE SHOOTER AT HEADLAND HIGH SCHOOL IN THE BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT “

And my office manager’s children attend Headland High School.

The action from the law enforcement officers in all agencies in all municipalities and counties were unified, together and rapid.

The officers kept their eye on the mission, as a law enforcement officer it is my job to take out the bod person immediately and save children and staff. No time to wait on additional units, but to attack the problem even if I am the first person to arrive and alone. ( Not speaking as to Rickey Stokes but speaking as law enforcement responding and arriving. )

These situations are not meant as “ I ”, but “ we “ but “ I “ might have to sacrifice my life in order to eliminate the threat. And all of the responding law enforcement officers who responded did just that and with that attitude.

But while those on duty were rolling as those off duty saw the pages they were deploying from their homes and other locations. That is why the officers drive their cars home and while off duty. PREPARED TO ROLL AT ALL TIMES!

When it seemed as a hoax the officers did not settle for someone telling them it was a hoax. The law enforcement officers conducted an extensive search to make sure there was no threat to the children and staff.

In Henry County, Headland Police, Henry County Sheriff Department, Abbeville Police Department, Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza, Houston County Sheriff Lt. Jackie Smith and others rolled. Sheriff Valenza joined the officers in room to room searches of the school.

In Coffee County, Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore and Enterprise Police, Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton and Coffee County Sheriff Deputies, ALEA - Troopers and other agencies of which I do  not know. 

But as I listened to the calls dispatched and rapid response, I was well pleased with how things developed quickly.

There are some issues to be discussed and some lessons learned. But this was not any type of planned drill, but was a real life in progress call that was really a hoax.

And I can say, as someone who has been in and around law enforcement and emergency services since 1977, I was very proud of the response. Would love to help work on some of the issues to be resolved because they surround communications. NOT COMMUNICATIONS STAFF, BUT COMMUNICATIONS.

But everyone had their eye on the ball of what the mission was and everyone were willing to not waste one second even if it cost them their life to save a child or staff member.

THANK YOU to the 911 staff of all agencies, law enforcement of all agencies, Emergency Management of all agencies, School Staff of all schools involved.

PLANNING IS THE KEY for implementation of the plan. And today proved it is a “we” and no “ I “ involved.
