DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The murder charge for the man accused of killing his six-month-old son and placing his body in a freezer has been dropped, according to court records.

Dothan police were notified of the crime back in June of 2018 when the Hall County Sheriff's Office told them about a possible infant death in the Circle City.

Carlton James Mathis and Amanda Gail Oakes were later found in Bronson, Florida, as they attempted to leave an apartment building. During the encounter with law enforcement, Mathis was shot four times by a SWAT team member after reportedly brandishing a weapon.

After questioning the couple, authorities learned the location of the child, Carlton James Oakes.
