GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — Commissioner Weston Spivey is now recovering following a “violent dog attack” that left him in the hospital.

According to a post on the commissioner’s page, Spivey was attacked by a pet German Shepherd.

“If you have a large animal never give it your complete trust or it will let you down,” Spivey wrote.

The attack left Spivey bloodied in what he said was “a fight to be alive,” but after getting some stitches and medical treatment, he said he’s feeling better.

Spivey extended his thanks to his neighbors and Slocomb first responders that helped him after the attack.

“Also would like to thank my girlfriend for being the calm in the middle of storm while I was losing blood,” he wrote:

" If you have a large animal never give it your complete trust or it will let you down. Last night I had a violent dog attack by a pet German Shepherd. I am feeling much better after stitches and medicine. It was a fight to be alive, Thank you for the calls, texts, and most of all prayers. I am very appreciative of Slocomb Fire and Rescue for their quick response. Also would like to thank my girlfriend for being the calm in the middle of storm while I was losing blood. I can’t thank all of my neighbors enough for helping me get in the ambulance and to the hospital safely. God bless our great Volunteer Fire Departments. " - WESTON SPIVEY

Last evening I went to Weston Spivey's house after Slocomb Rescue was on the scene. In fact the ambulance called arrival at Southeast Health with Spivey as I arrived at his house.

His grandaddy was cleaning up Weston's blood. His grandaddy said he lost a lot of blood which was what Slocomb Rescue was advised on dispatch that Weston had lost a lot of blood.

I sent Weston a text message while he was at the hospital checking on him. In fact the picture he posted was one he took and sent me following the text message checking on him.

Did not post until WDHN posted and Weston posted the dog bite. Last night I responded to check on Weston not as a news person. So that was why I waited to post.

This was Weston's personal German Shepherd. You never think your own dog will turn on you and maul you.

PRAYERS for quick healing Weston.
