Geneva County Does Swift Water Rescue - Roads Hit Hard All Across County

GENEVA COUNTY:    Today emergency officials from Geneva County and from Opp responded to the south end of Geneva County for a swift water rescue.

A vehicle drove into a roadway area covered by water. The vehicle got stuck in the water while water was running swift. The vehicle driver and occupants were trapped and unable to escape the vehicle safely.

Emergency Officials in Geneva County and from Opp responded and rescued the stranded motorist and passengers and got them to safety. There were no injuries.

GENEVA COUNTY ROADS HIT HARD

Geneva County has 579 square miles. A lot of the 579 square miles consists of dirt roads.

This afternoon a bridge on a heavy traveled road between Samson and Enterprise had to be closed. Water was coming through the bridge.

Geneva County Engineer Justin Barfield and staff have checked a lot of the 579 square miles of paved roads and bridges. And in the process of checking the dirt roads. But with the heavy rainfall today the dirt roads are going to be a mess.

PATIENCE is what the citizens and guests of Geneva County are going to be required to have. The County Engineer and staff, County Commission Chairman Toby Seay and members of the Geneva County Commission are going to work as hard as possible to have the adequate funding in order to get the roads in shape.

Alabama State Senator Donnie Chesteen and Alabama State Representative Jeff Sorrells who represent Geneva County in the Alabama Legislature are going to work to assist from the state level as much as can be done.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey issued a State of Emergency declaration prior to the heavy rainfall hitting. But certian thresholds have to be met in order to qualify.
