Recently, Governor Ivey invited students in Alabama to participate in her Summer Reading Challenge in hopes more students will read over the course of the summer.
The challenge, open to all Alabama students, began on May 19 and will end on July 31; it does not matter what type of education students receive (home school, private, remote, or public).
"Each of you worked hard this school year, and I couldn’t be prouder of your efforts in the classroom. Summer is a time to break from school but not from learning," Gov. Ivey said.
She encouraged students to continue their progress and growth they made this past school year by participating in this reading challenge over the summer.
In order to participate, students can write a letter to her and share what their favorite summer reading book was and why. Assigned books for summer reading from teachers will also be accepted topics students may write about and share with Governor Ivey.
In addition to that written portion of the letter, all students must include their name, grade, and school they attend. Letters should be addressed and mailed to the following:
Governor Kay Ivey
Attn: Governor Ivey’s Summer Reading Challenge
600 Dexter Avenue
Montgomery, AL 36130
Teachers, students, and parents can also share what books students are reading by tweeting her at @GovernorKayIvey and using the hashtag #GovernorIveysReadingChallenge and #AlabamaReads.
