Guidelines To Seek Election For Public Office - DEADLINE IS FRIDAY

HOUSTON COUNTY - STATE OF ALABAMA:    There are four ways to get elected to public office in the State of Alabama: (1) write in candidate - which has been done but your chances are not likely (2) seek election as a Republican Candidate (3) seek election as a Democratic Candidate (4) seek election as an Independent Candidate.

Option 1 - election day is the deadline. While this has been successful in some places your chances are not real strong as a write in candidate.

Option 2 and Option 3 - seek election in the PRIMARY ELECTION as a Republican or Democrat. Your deadline to seek election as a Republican or Democrat is this Friday.

Option 4 - Independent - you must obtain a certain number of signatures of registered voters and file those with the Probate Judge of the County you wish to run or if a state office with the Secretary of State by May 24.

LET ME EXPLAIN THE ELECTION PROCESS

Alabama has a Republican Primary and a Democratic Primary.

In the May 24, 2022 and run off election would follow a period of time later. A run off election is only should a candidate not receive 50 plus 1 percent of the votes cast.

In the May 24, 2022 and if a run off election in the run off election, you must vote either as a Republican or Democrat, as you did in the May 24 election. If you vote Republican in the primary, if there is a run off and you vote, then you must vote Republican. The same is true is you vote Democrat in the primary election, if there is a run off and you vote, you must vote Democrat.

You CAN NOT vote Republican on May 24 and then in the run off vote Democrat. 

ON NOVEMBER 8, 2022

You have the option to vote for individuals or straight Republican or straight Democrat. If there is a independent seeking election you can vote for the independent on November 8. And it is on this date you would do your write in for a particular office.

MOST ELECTIONS WILL BE OVER IN THE PRIMARY OR RUN OFF 

If there are only Republican or Democratic candidates on May 24, and only two of them, the election for that office will be over on May 24, 2022.

If there are more then two Republican or Democrat candidates, and no one gets 50% plus 1, then there will be a run off in June.

However, if a Republican is running and a Democrat for the same office, they will square off on the November 8 election. And if a Independent is running, then the Independent will square off with the Repubican and/or Democrat on November 8.
