HEADLAND - ABBEVILLE - HENRY COUNTY:     Today in Henry County there was a law enforcement event that had ZERO to do with the election of Sheriff of Henry County.

Today in Henry County was probably one of the most important days in law enforcement in the entire square miles of Henry County.

Headland Police Chief Mark Jones, Abbeville Police Chief Eric Blankenship, and Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox, as the leaders of the three main law enforcement agencies in Henry County came together. They came together with Henry County School Superintendent Lori Beasley and Abbeville Christian Academy Headmaster Amanda Ates and established a drill in all schools in Henry County.

This drill was planned before the Texas shooting and other school violence. But while schools were out they all planned the exercise, and today made it happen.

FOR THE RECORD:

A local TV Station was present and asked for a interview. The two candidates in the June 21 run off election for Henry County Sheriff, Eric Blankenship and Josh Moore, worked together a team in the co-ordination, implementation and management of the operation. Eric is Chief of Police in Abbeville and Josh Moore is Special Operations with Henry County Sheriff Department. So there was nothing political about today's exercise and these two worked together.

THE EXERCISE

Headland Police, Abbeville Police and Henry County Sheriff Department had a combined force of 20 or less officers participated in the exercise. It was 8 hours long and involved all public and private schools in Henry County.

The goal was to make officers well aware of the school layouts and operations. Officers from Headland might not be aware of the lay out of the schools in Abbeville and the same for officers in Abbeville not aware of the layout of the schools of Abbeville. The Henry County Sheriff Department was in full swing with the operation.

After tours of the schools and discussion with the School Superintendent and Headmaster, the combined agencies ran through a few exercises and situations.

Both Sheriff candidates agreed and were in harmony that this was something that has been needed for a long period of time. The most precious resources are the children and each law enforcement officer in the exercise would take the bullet before they would let a child take it.

Headland Police Chief Mark Jones was excited abut today's exercise and said all worked well together today.

GREAT JOB to all involved.
